SAT Reading Coach

Privacy policy

Last updated: September 15, 2026

SAT Reading Coach (“Reed”) is a Chrome extension that tutors Digital SAT Reading and Writing. It is operated with the site at satreadingtutor.netlify.app.

What Reed can see

Reed does not watch every tab. After you click Allow on a practice tab, the extension may read that tab’s address, title, and visible text so it can tutor the question on the page. You can revoke access. Reed will not help with a live official College Board exam session.

What we send to our servers

To reply, Reed’s background script sends the allowed page text and your chat messages to our Netlify functions, which call an AI model (Netlify AI Gateway). Optional spoken replies may send Reed’s text to a speech API. We use this only to tutor Reading and Grammar on that turn.

We do not store passage text, page HTML, or screenshots in our database. If you save progress, we store skill counts only (for example how often you practiced evidence or punctuation), not the wording of the item.

Accounts

Sign-in is optional. If you create an account, Netlify Identity may store your email and a password hash. Guest progress can stay on this device in Chrome storage.

What stays on your computer

Chrome session storage may hold the allowed tab list, a short page snapshot, and the current chat. Chrome local storage may hold guest skill stats and voice preferences. Clearing the extension or Chrome data removes them.

We do not sell your data

We do not sell student data. We do not use it for ads, credit scoring, or unrelated products. AI providers process a turn so Reed can answer; they are not a sale of your data.

Children

Reed is meant for SAT practice with a school-safe tutor voice. Do not use it to share extra personal details in chat. If you are under 13, use Reed only with a parent or school’s permission.
